A(a)yla

Privately, Felicia and I were debating on what to name the latest addition to our family. After much research, we soon agreed on Ayla, which means two things: the moon’s aura & faithful. However, Asher and Avisha had other plans of course. A spirited discussion ensued leading them to refer to the Star Wars encyclopaedia for inspiration (yes you heard me right…the Star Wars Encyclopaedia of Characters)! Now if you know even the tiniest bit on Star Wars, you can envisage where this was heading. Imagine calling your daughter An’Kwee, Aiolin Astarte or even Amidala! Not that these are not good names but these names belong to a galaxy far away…not here.

By divine intervention, the first female character in the encyclopaedia was Aayla Secura, a Twi’lek Jedi Master (you can imagine my relief – thank you Jesus!). Aayla Secura fought many battles during the Clone Wars and was promoted from General to Master. Despite the fact that Asher wanted a puppy instead of a baby, we all agreed on naming our littlest member Ayla (pronounced A-Lah). And what a tender name it is.

Other than The Rock (Asher) who is greatly drawn to the uberness of the Dark Side, I took it upon myself to educate the entire family on the ways of the Jedi. Or at least attempted to…nonetheless we all agreed on one thing though; dress up! It is no secret that we are a family that loves to create. What better way than to dress the little padawan in the ways of the Force! And so, one pantyhose, two reams of brown felt, fabric and oodles of giggles later, we present to you the latest addition to the Force, Ayla Pillai.

Aayla Secura
